John Battelle is an entrepreneur and author who has founded or co-founded scores of media businesses. In addition to his work as Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Federated Media Publishing, he serves as the Executive Producer and Program Chair of the Web 2 Summit. Battelle maintains a site covering the intersection of media, technology and culture. Previously, He occupied the Bloomberg Chair at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. He was Founder, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Media International (SMI) and a Co-Founding Editor of Wired magazine and Wired Ventures. In 2005, Battelle authored The Search, an international bestseller published in more than 25 languages. He was a founding Board Member of the OPA and currently sits on the Board of the IAB. Honours and awards include: “Global Leader for Tomorrow,” from the World Economic Forum; finalist in the “Entrepreneur of the Year” competition by Ernst & Young; and “Innovator -- One of 10 Best Marketers in the Business” from Advertising Age. Battelle holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UC Berkeley.
