Jos? Ignacio Peralta has been the Mayor of the Mexican City of Colima since October 2009. The municipality of Colima covers 680 square kilometers with a population of 150,000 citizens. From 2004 to 2009, he served as Secretary of Economic Development of Colima, responsible for the multi-sector economic policy to enhance the development and growth of the state's economy. From 1994 to 2003, he worked at the Central Bank of Mexico in areas related to monetary and foreign exchange rate policy and international reserves management. In 1993, he served on the staff of economic advisers to the federal government's Undersecretary of Public Education and, earlier, spent two years as economic research analyst on several projects. Peralta was a professor of economics at several universities in Mexico. He holds a BA in Economics from ITAM and an MA in Economics from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom.
