Kaliya, known as the “Identity Woman”, is a leading advocate for digital dignity and people rights online, and an expert in user-centric digital identity and personal data. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Personal Data Ecosystem Consortium (PDEC). PDEC's Startup Circle includes over 50 start-ups globally, building tools to empower people with their own data. The organization also has a Learning Lab and Advisory Group for enterprises. Kaliya founded and is Principle at Unconference.net, a firm which designs and facilitates participatory events for networked communities. She has founded several unconferences, including She's Geeky for women in STEM, and the Internet Identity Workshop. Kaliya serves on the Management Council of the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group for the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, and is active with the World Economic Forum's Rethinking Personal Data Project. She has a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Kaliya played water polo for the Canadian Women's National Team and won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games.
