Katinka Barysch is Deputy Director of the Centre for European Reform (CER), an independent, London-based think-tank devoted to making the EU work better and strengthening the Union's role in the world. Katinka is an expert on European economics, Russia, Turkey, Eastern Europe and questions of energy security. She joined the CER in 2002 as Chief Economist, and has since acted as an adviser to several EU governments, the House of Lords, the World Economic Forum, as well as various multinational corporations, financial institutions and business federations. She has published widely and regularly comments on European developments in the media. Katinka previously worked as an Analyst and Editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit in London and as a consultant in Brussels. Katinka gained an MSc from the London School of Economics and a BA from LMU in Munich. She is a member of the advisory boards of FINCA, a micro-credit charity, and the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF).
