Kunihiko Shimada is a negotiation strategist and mediator on a wide range of international issues, including peace and security, energy, trade and global environmental issues. He is currently Special Adviser to the Minister of Environment of Japan and State Secretary on Nuclear Safety, as well as a lead lead climate negotiator. He has also been a lead mediator for peace and security at the UN. Prior to government, Shimada was Founder and Chief Executive Officer of KS International Strategies, which provides international governments and organizations with policy and strategic advice. He is also a Partner of Sun Investment and a Board Member of STV Sustainable Technology Ventures and Genesis Facility. Shimada received a PhD in Negotiation Strategies from Harvard University, an MA in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University, a BA (Hons) in Political Science from Amherst College and an LLB (Hons) from Doshisha University. He has also received several international awards for his work on peace and security and energy-environmental issues.
