Leslie W. Maasdorp

Leslie W. Maasdorp is President of Southern Africa for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Prior to this role he served as Vice-Chairman of Barclays Capital and Absa Capital. In 2002, he was the first African to be appointed as International Adviser to Goldman Sachs International. From 1999 to 2002, he led the privatization programme for the South African Government when he served as Deputy Director-General. In 1994, he was appointed as Special Adviser to the Minister of Labour, Mr. Tito Mboweni. Prior to 1994, he served as Policy Adviser to the Department of Economic Planning of the African National Congress and worked as Senior Manager in Strategy for Deloitte Consulting. Maasdorp is Chairman of Advtech, and serves on the Boards of Cell C, Soros Economic Development Fund, Prescient and is the Vice President of Business Leadership South Africa. He holds an MSc degree in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and a BA degree in Economics and Psychology from the University of the Western Cape.
