Marcelo Claure is Founder & CEO of Brightstar. Since founding Brightstar in 1997, Marcelo has grown the company from a small Miami-based distributor into a global business, with $10.5 billion in gross revenue for the year ended 2013. Brightstar has a local presence in more than 50 countries on six continents, and delivers its products and services to more than 90,000 customers in over 125 countries. In January of 2014, SoftBank Corp. invested $1.26 billion in the company. Under Marcelo's leadership, Brightstar has become the world's largest global wireless distribution and services company in the telecommunications industry. In 2013, Forbes Magazine listed Brightstar as the 55th largest privately held company in the U.S. Brightstar was also recognized as the largest Hispanic-owned business in the United States in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Governor Charlie Crist appointed Marcelo to serve on Florida International University's Board of Trustees. In January of 2014, Marcelo was appointed to serve on the Sprint Board of Directors. Marcelo is the owner of the Bolivian soccer team, Bolivar, the country's most popular team. In February of 2014, together with David Beckham and Simon Fuller, Marcelo became a principal partner in Miami Beckham United, a venture to establish a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise in Miami. Marcelo also serves on the Fédération Internationale de Football Association's (FIFA's) Committee for Fair Play and Social Responsibility. Marcelo holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance and an honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from Bentley University in Massachusetts.
