Martina Viarengo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva. She is also a Faculty Associate at the Harvard University Center for International Development and Harvard's Women and Public Policy Program, and a Member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Women's Empowerment. Prior to joining the Graduate Institute's faculty, Viarengo was an Economist at the Centre for Economic Performance of the London School of Economics and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is a specialist in applied microeconomics and development, and her research focuses on comparative education policy, gender and international migration. In 2009, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and was named a Newton International Fellow by the British Academy and the Royal Society. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and an MA from Northwestern University.
