Considered the first astronomer in the world committed to installing a large astronomical observatory in Antarctica. Was first to place an Arab flag (Moroccan) at the South Pole. One of the first astronomers to install VLT telescopes in the Atacama Desert in Chile. Research focused on stellar and universe evolution.
