Motohisa Furukawa is currently serving his fourth consecutive term in the Japanese House of Representatives as Head Director for the Committee on Economy, Trade and Industry. At the age of 30, Furukawa participated in the founding of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and was elected for the first time that same year. Within the DPJ, Furukawa currently serves as Chair of the Pension Research Committee, Senior Vice-Chair of the Tax System Research Committee and Vice-Chair of the Committee for Devolution. Prior to his political career, Furukawa joined Japan's Ministry of Finance where he participated in the Ministry of Finance Exchange Programme at Columbia University. He is a graduate of the University of Tokyo with a BA in Law.
