Nima Tshering is a 2014 Echidna Global Scholar at Center for Universal Education, Global Economy and Development at the Brookings Institution. At Brookings, he focuses on the current state of girls’ education in his home country of Bhutan, exploring methods for promoting girls’ education, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Tshering is a former Professional Assistant to His Majesty the King of Bhutan. In this position, he worked in the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon (OGZ), which focuses on people's welfare and well-being and implements the king's welfare programme. In 2013, he played a central role in the formation of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa, a Bhutanese political party founded on the principles of freedom, justice and solidarity. Tshering has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas in the United States, an MSc in Engineering Management from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and an MPA in International Development from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
