Paul Kapelus is Director of Synergy Global Consulting, a company that works with business, government and civil society on understanding and managing social innovation and risk to optimize the role of business in development. With offices in the United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi and South Africa, he works in challenging environments providing research, systems design and conflict resolution services for investments in the natural resource sector as well as support for public-private partnerships. He was a founding Director of the African Institute of Corporate Citizenship, sits on the Board of Trustees of Buyani Education Trust (informal settlement in South Africa) and the Ikusasa Development Trust (focus on support for tertiary education students in the field of sustainability of the built environment). He holds a Master's in Social Anthropology from Sussex University (United Kingdom) where he specialized in multinational mining companies and corporate social responsibility, and a Honours degree from University of Witwatersrand, where he undertook his anthropology research in a migrant workers' hostel during the political transition in South Africa.
