Renée Maria Tremblay
International Criminal Court
Renée Maria Tremblay is Legal Counsel to the Supreme Court of Canada and recent Visiting Professional at the International Criminal Court. At the Supreme Court, she previously held respective roles as Law Clerk, Legal Officer and Acting Executive Legal Officer to the Chief Justice of Canada and in the latter capacity conducted all press briefings for the Court. Renée Maria has also served as Legal Counsel to the Canadian Judicial Council, and served at the Canadian embassies in Paris and Washington, DC. Renée Maria has also practiced law at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City. She is a Vice-President of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies and serves on the Cambridge University Lectures Committee. Renée Maria holds a joint LL.B.- MBA from Université de Moncton and has completed executive programmes in public policy at Harvard Kennedy School and Oxford University. She has edited Black's Law Dictionary and has lectured at The Hague Academy of International Law and the University of Ottawa, as well as in Myanmar and China. Renée Maria is the recipient of the 2009 Prix Émergence and was named a 2011 Precedent Setter by Canadian law magazine Precedent. In 2013, she was named a Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum and since 2015, she serves on the Global Agenda Council on Justice. In 2015, Renée Maria was selected to serve as a commissioner of an International Bar Association mission to Cambodia. She is fluently bilingual in English and French.
