Rye Barcott is author of It Happened on the Way to War and Co-Founder of the non-governmental organization Carolina For Kibera, which prevents violence and invests in young leaders in the Kibera slum of Nairobi through its model of participatory development. Barcott served for five years in the US Marines and earned masters' degrees in business and public administration from Harvard, where he was a Reynolds Social Entrepreneurship Fellow and member of the Harvard Endowment's Advisory Committee on Shareholder Responsibility. He lives with his wife and daughter in Charlotte, North Carolina and works in the Sustainability Office at Duke Energy.
