Member of the European Parliament
Silvana Koch-Mehrin has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2004, representing the Free Democrats Party (FDP) of Germany. She was a Member of the FDP central executive board (1999 to 2011) and credited with bringing her party back into the European Parliament after a 10-year absence. Koch-Mehrin served as Vice-Chairperson of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (2004 to 2009) and was Vice-President of the European Parliament in charge of cooperation with national parliaments (2009 to 2011). Previously, Koch-Mehrin was a Partner in the consulting company Policy Action and lectured to MBA students on business communication at the United Business Institute in Brussels. She founded Conseillé+Partners, a consulting firm for strategy planning and consultancy on European issues. She holds an MA in Economics and History from the University of Heidelberg. In 2000, she received was named Woman of the Year by Freundin Magazine and in 2004 was named Young Politician of the Year by Helios Publishing Company.
