Toru Hashimoto is a politician, lawyer and commentator on legal matters in Japan. He was elected as Mayor of Osaka City in November 2011, and since then he has been implementing a number of structural reforms in numerous sectors including education, policy, and public servant contract policies. Prior to becoming mayor, he was the 52nd Governor of Osaka Prefecture (the youngest in Japan at the time) and is the president of the Osaka Restoration Association ('One Osaka'). He also launched ‘Ishin Seiji Juku’, a “cram school” for upbringing future political leaders in March 2012, with 2,000 students in the inaugural class.
