Valdis Dombrovskis is Prime Minister of Latvia, and a former Member of the European Parliament and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Latvia He has served as Chief Economist at the Bank of Latvia and is a Board Member of the New Era political party as well as a Member of the Bureau of Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats at the European Parliament. He studied and worked at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland and at the Institute of Physics at the University of Mainz in Germany and at the Institute of Solid State Physics at the Latvian University. He holds an MSc in Physics from the Latvian University and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Riga's Technical University.
