William F. Browder founded Hermitage Capital Management in 1996 and is its Chief Executive Officer. The company is one of the world's leading emerging markets investment firms. In 2007, after 11 years of investing exclusively in Russia, Browder launched Hermitage Global, a global deep-value fund currently active in the Middle East and other frontier markets. Through its Russia-dedicated Hermitage Fund, the firm is the most prominent shareholder activist in Russia and has been credited with a number of corporate governance breakthroughs at major Russian companies, including Gazprom, Unified Energy Systems and Sberbank. Before founding Hermitage, Browder was Vice-President at Salomon Brothers and a Management Consultant with the East European practice of the Boston Consulting Group in London. He obtained a BA (with Honours) in Economics from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the Stanford Business School.
