Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, has been awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.

His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Japan presented Professor Schwab with the award, which is the highest Order bestowed by the Government of Japan on foreign nationals.

The award recognizes Professor Schwab’s achievements in advancing public-private cooperation through his leadership of the World Economic Forum.

Since 1973, Professor Schwab has regularly visited Japan, leading the World Economic Forum’s engagement with the Government and with the Forum’s Members to ensure that all relevant stakeholders from business, politics, academia and civil society are able to address global issues.

“It is an honour to receive this award and the recognition from the Government of Japan of the World Economic Forum’s work in advancing public-private cooperation globally,” said Professor Schwab.

The Order was first awarded in 1875 and features rays radiating from a rising sun. The design includes a red-and-white-sash.
