  • The World Economic Forum will convene the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, from 27-29 June.
  • The meeting will welcome over 1,500 participants from nearly 90 countries.
  • The gathering comes as the need for global collaboration remains urgent as various crises continue to impact the global economy.

As the global economy continues its multifaceted transformation, the World Economic Forum is returning to China.

The Forum will convene the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) in the city of Tianjin from 27-29 June 2023. The meeting—occasionally referred to as “Summer Davos”—will be held under the theme of Entrepreneurship: The Driving Force of the Global Economy and feature a plenary address by Li Qiang, the Premier of the People's Republic of China.

AMNC comes as converging so-called polycrises continue to impact the global economy. Moreover, an increasingly competitive geopolitical and geoeconomic environment is further straining governments and private industries as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The world is experiencing deep systemic and structural economic, geopolitical and technological transformations challenging traditional patterns

AMNC aims to renew momentum for the types of innovation that can drive a stronger recovery and foster a more equitable, sustainable and resilient global economy. The meeting also seeks to facilitate global and regional collaboration around various issues.

The meeting’s programme includes dozens of public and private sessions covering six key pillars: rewiring growth, China in the global context, energy transition and materials, post-pandemic consumers, safeguarding nature and climate, and deploying innovation. Furthermore, more than 25 initiatives and coalitions will be launched or advanced at the meeting.

Nearly 90 countries will be represented at the meeting.

The meeting will also examine the pitfalls associated with economic and political fragmentation.
