Lawyer by background. Practised for 20 years with the international law firm Baker McKenzie; 1999, became Global Chairman. 2005, joined the French government as Trade Secretary. Two years later, became the first woman to hold the post of Finance and Economy Minister of a G7 country. Since July 2011, eleventh and first woman Managing Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF). July 2016, re-elected for a five-year term. Member of the Board of Trustees, World Economic Forum.
