Director, Mental Health, Wellcome Trust

Heads up the Mental Health Priority Area at the Wellcome Trust. This involves overseeing a ring-fenced fund of £200 million to develop a new generation of treatments and approaches to help young people held back by anxiety and depression. The overall vision is a world where no one is held back by mental health problems. Professor in Evidence Based Research and practice at UCL and founded the Evidence Based Practice Unit, which is dedicated to bridging research and practice in youth mental health. 2012-19, NHS England’s National Informatics Advisor for Children and Young People’s Mental Health. Extensive experience as a clinical psychologist for NHS England and in schools. Experiences working with young people and families led to co-founding of the Child Outcomes Research Consortium, a learning collaboration focused on understanding the impact of mental health and well-being support through collecting and using outcome evidence. 2017, recipient of an MBE for services to children and young people’s mental health.
