Data Policy

How can we develop agile and innovative policies for governing the growing amount of data that is powering the Fourth Industrial Revolution and address the increasing fractured data regulatory landscape?

Data fuels the Fourth Industrial Revolution. More data is being generated than ever before, with the global volume of data predicted to double between 2018 and 2022, and then double again between 2022 and 2025.

Although an unprecedented amount of data flows across borders and devices, the regulatory environment for data protection remains fractured. With more than 120 data privacy laws in place globally today, there is more uncertainty than ever. More recently, questions about the ethical use of data within the public and private sectors have come to the fore as critical issues for our time.

The Platform for Shaping the Future of Technology Governance: Data focuses on maximizing the humanitarian and beneficial uses of data while seeking to develop practical solutions using a multistakeholder approach to policy-making.
