Global Future Council on the Future of Synthetic Biology

Council mission and objectives

Synthetic biology is developing the foundational knowledge and tools to engineer biological systems. These capabilities have the potential to address major challenges facing all societies, from climate change to pandemic preparedness to food security. How do we organize globally to unlock this potential and enable benefits for all?

In the 2023/24 term, the GFC on Synthetic Biology will identify critical governance issues, survey the landscape of organizations poised to drive development of the field and industry, and help catalyze new coalitions to ensure a prosperous biofuture.
