The Future of Protein Action Community
The Future of Protein Action Community

Context
The breadth and reach of protein – which sits across intertwined agendas including food, environment and nature, health and nutrition, and livelihoods and economic growth – means that a complex ecosystem of solutions is needed to deliver positive outcomes for people and planet in light of the growing population. The protein ecosystem of tomorrow will rely on substantial innovation, along with an appreciation of the set of trade-offs particular solutions will bring, to allow for more contentious decision making in light of recognition of the system’s complexity and potential unintended consequences. It will also require actors to come together with a commonality of purpose, to accelerate action in support of achieving the necessary protein transitions.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Protein Workstream sits within the Food Systems Initiative as part of the Platform for Global Public Goods. It aims to accelerate the transformation of the protein ecosystem to deliver universally accessible, healthy and sustainable protein for a population of ten billion. Recognizing that there is no “silver bullet” solution and that different approaches will be needed for diverse geographies and cultures, the Future of Protein supports three transition pathways to enable transformation:
- Accelerate protein diversification
- Advance sustainable production systems
- Drive consumer behaviour-demand change
Protein Action Community
The Protein Action Community will discuss and exchange best practices, pressing challenges and forward-looking solutions to:
- Showcase how members are accelerating transition pathways towards protein transformation, through sharing of ideas, new research, best practices
- Amplify and disseminate protein narratives and action, to inspire others and create momentum towards transformation
- Catalyse new coalitions for placed-based action, by learning from and exchanging with other leaders across the diverse protein ecosystem
Members of this group will have the opportunity to participate actively in the discussions, and to share their actions, progress and challenges in support of universally accessible, healthy and sustainable protein for a population of ten billion. They are invited to share and use the community space on TopLink to highlight upcoming events, articles, knowledge pieces or blog ideas relevant for the community.
