At the University of Oxford, Dr Annette Idler is the Director of Studies at the Changing Character of War Centre, Senior Research Fellow at Pembroke College and at the Department of Politics and International Relations, and Affiliate at the Latin American Centre. Also Research Associate at the Graduate Institute Geneva’s Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding. Works on interface of conflict, security, transnational organized crime, peacebuilding and governance. Has conducted extensive fieldwork including in and on war-torn and crisis-affected borderlands of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela with more than 550 interviews with local stakeholders. Has published extensively on security dynamics related to violent non-state actors. Advises governments and international organizations on security, organized crime, peace processes and related issues. Serves on advisory boards of several research organisations across Europe. Regular expert for well-respected media outlets. Holds doctorate from Department of International Development, University of Oxford, MA in International Relations from King’s College London’s Department of War Studies. Worked for UN and German development cooperation before taking up position at Oxford.
