Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (Hons), Corpus Christi College, Oxford University. Started working life as an analyst at the Bank of England, and then as an economist in the city of London. Formerly with the Financial Times, the BBC, and the Times of London. Previously served Deputy Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal and as Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones from 2013 to 2018.

Currently, Editor At Large of The Wall Street Journal. Writes columns and commentary for the Journal and hosts a weekly news/current affairs show on Fox Business called The Wall Street Journal At Large w/Gerry Baker. I also write a weekly column for the WSJ Editorial Page called "Free Expression," which appears in The Wall Street Journal each Monday. I also host a Free Expression Podcast, where I speak with the world's leading writers, influencers and thinkers about a variety of subjects.
