Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI. Prior to taking up the post of Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Iraq and Head of United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, was the Minister of Defence of The Netherlands (2012-17). Also served as a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands (2010-2012) and Member of the European Parliament (2004-2010). Worked for the European Commission in Brussels and in Riga, Latvia, and for the City of Amsterdam.
