Juan Jose Aranguren

Degree in Chemical Engineering, University of Buenos Aires. 1977, joined Shell; former Technical Auditor, Dock Sud refinery; Economist, Shell refinery, Geelong, Australia; 1986-95, various managerial positions, Shell’s commercial wing, Argentina and 1995-97, in Africa and Latin America; 1997, appointed Vice-President, Supplies and Marketing; 2000, Vice-President, Automobile Market, Southern Cone; 2003-15, President, Shell Argentina Petroleum Company and Vice-President, Supply Chain. Since December 2015, Minister of Energy and Mining; has set about to increase confidence in the energy sector and create the right conditions for long-term investment and a robust path towards energy security; advocate of renewable energy and of reducing the impact of climate change; in May, set out rules for Argentina’s first planned auction for renewable energy, expected to spur as much as 1 GW of new capacity led by wind and solar farms and drive as much as $2 billion in investment. Recipient of awards and honours, including: Konex Platinum Prize, Industry Executive category (2008); Business Leader Award in Industry, Association of Business Leaders (2009); CEO of the Year, Cronista Comercial and its magazine Apertura (2013).
