Recipient of numerous awards and honours including: 41 honorary degrees; French Legion of Honour; Council of Europe's North South Prize; Franklin R. Roosevelt's Freedom from Fear Award; Companion of the Order of Canada; Grande Officière de l'Ordre national du Québec.
