Luiz Ros

Special Adviser, Innovation; Head, Digital Economy Initiative, Inter-American Development Bank

Mr. Luiz Ros has been Manager for the Opportunities for the Majority (OM) Sector Office at Inter-American Development Bank since January 2008, with responsibility for promoting and coordinating activities corresponding to the OM initiative. Mr. Ros joined the IDB in 2007, as Principal Business Development Specialist for the OM Office. Before joining the Bank, he was the Global Manager for Markets and Sustainable Enterprise at the World Resources Institute (WRI). He directed the Sustainable Enterprise Program and also participated as a member of the Executive Management Team. He also led WRI's Sustainable Growth in Emerging Economies team, which engages the private sector in key economies such as Brazil, China, Mexico, Indonesia and India. He served as an advisor to the Dupont Global Vice-President for Emerging Markets Growth & Latin America Presidency. In this capacity, he provided strategic advice on how to meet the needs of low-income markets in Latin America. He has served as a member of the strategic board for VCIII/Stratus Investment Fund. He also served as a member of IFC's advisory panel under the Sustainable Finance Initiative and the Latin America UNEP-Financial Initiative Advisory Group. Prior to working at WRI, Mr. Ros was the Director for the National Environmental Fund at the Ministry of Environment in Brazil, where he funded more than 100 projects, including those with local communities and indigenous people in the Amazon region. He worked as a Task Manager for the World Bank, managing projects in Brazil for the Global Environmental Facility. Mr. Ros serves as a Member of Advisory Board of NextBillion Brasil. He is a Visiting-Scholar at SUNY/Syracuse. He lectured at the Harvard Business School on "Private sector strategies to serve low-income markets in Latin America". He was selected among the top 6 business leaders working for a great cause "Executivos de Grandes Causas" by Época Negócios, a leading business magazine in Brazil. Mr. Ros has a B.S. in Economics, a post-graduate degree in Latin American Economics, and M.Sc. in International Relations/ Environmental Economics from the University of Brasilia, Brazil.
