After participating in anti-emergency struggle, 1977-80, President of the Youth Wing, Janata Party. 1978 and 1983, elected as an MLA to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Udayagiri constituency, Nellore district. 1999, Union Cabinet Minister for Rural Development. 2002, National President, BJP. Currently, Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, and Parliamentary Affairs.
