Matthew L. Scullin

Chief Executive Officer, Alphabet Energy

Dr. Scullin founded Alphabet Energy, Inc. in 2008, the leading company in the field of thermoelectrics for waste-heat recovery. As its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Scullin has led Alphabet Energy, Inc. from early technology development through the generation of revenue from the world’s first commercial thermoelectric waste-heat recovery generators. Dr. Scullin has extensive experience developing strategic corporate partnerships and selling into industries including oil & gas, automotive, steel, process heating, defense, and consumer hardware, as well as in team-building, intellectual property, product management, and venture financing. Dr. Scullin has raised over US$45 million from leading worldwide venture, corporate, private equity, angel, and debt investors. Dr. Scullin is also a board member of the Heat is Power Association, the industry’s leading policy and advocacy trade group. He has won numerous awards for innovation and entrepreneurship including the World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer award and was named to Forbes 30 Under 30. Prior to founding Alphabet Energy, Inc., Dr. Scullin held positions at X/Seed Capital, IBM, and General Motors. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in Materials Science where his work was highly cited in leading scientific journals including Nature Materials, and a B.S.E. in Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania, Magna Cum Laude. He is an avid sailor and a former DJ.
