Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan is a serial entrepreneur, renowned philanthropist, published author and a Cambridge University graduate, holding a Masters degree in Sustainable Leadership. Her successful business enterprises have led to her becoming a well-respected business woman and industry expert in the field of sustainability, where she is the Founder and CEO of Alliances for Global Sustainability and Founder of Sustainable Strategic Solutions (3S), a research-based consultancy firm. Sheikha Shamma’s business acumen is further represented by her ownership in several other industries, including the prestigious Al Asayl Show Jumping and the Royal Publishing House, who have published numerous books written by her, including ‘The Adventures of Maxima and Coustaud: In Search of a Global Solution’, ‘The Lost Princess’, and ‘The Colour Thief.’ She is also recognised for contributions in the charity and social responsibility sphere. From a very early-age Sheikha Shamma has been socially conscious of the positive impact she has through community-focused endeavours, and thus is dedicated to the development and implementation of non-profit organisations and initiatives. Her charitable foundation, Circle of Hope, has established a substantial amount of local and international initiatives; these include ‘Wanna Read?’, which has placed over 7,000 books for young patients in hospitals across the UAE; ‘Beacon of Hope’, which has supplied thousands of children in developing countries with an important solar-light resource, was recognised at the 2018 United Nations Solutions Summit; finally, the ‘Women’s Empowerment and Equality Board’ (WEEB) initiative, which was founded to promote gender equality in the workplace and boardrooms. As an active and passionate researcher, Sheikha Shamma has produced academic papers at global conferences in the fields of gender studies, migration studies, sustainable development, knowledge transfer, consumer behaviour, Emiratisation and financial literacy. This has subsequently led to her acquiring the position of Research Associate at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at Zayed University, and she sits on the Industry and Academic Advisory Board of the Academy of International Business MENA. Sheikha Shamma cites her great-grandfather, the UAE’s founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan to be a source of inspiration, and credits his vision as the reason why she places immense importance on sustainability, philanthropy, and women empowerment. Through her actions and examples, Sheikha Shamma aspires to ensure that Sheikh Zayed’s legacy lives on and that his vision continues to create a positive impact globally.
