Law studies, Hitotsubashi University. 1973, joined the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 1996-98, Minister, Embassy of Japan, China, in charge of cultural affairs; 2002-04, Director, Abandoned Chemical Weapons Office, Cabinet Office. Dealt with immigration policy issues at the head office of the Ministry of Justice and as Director- General, Sendai Immigration Bureau. Was also involved in development cooperation policy issues at the head office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Director, in charge of ODA loan to Indonesia, Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (now a part of JICA). As Director, scientific affairs, head office, promoted international scientific cooperation. Foreign postings at Japan's Permanent Mission to the UN, New York, and Embassy, Indonesia and Germany. 2005- 07, Consul-General of Japan, Honolulu. 2007-10, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kenya and, 2010-13, Austria. Currently, Secretary-General, TCS; promotes trilateral coop eration, particularly in the areas of trade and economy, sustainable development, disaster management, and collaboration with ASEAN, EU and other international organizations.The term of office will be until the end of August, 2015.
