Councilmember, Crescenta Valley Town Council

Sophal Ear is in his first year of a three-year term as an elected member of the Crescenta Valley Town Council which encompasses 20,000 residents in unincorporated Los Angeles County, California. He is an educator and author of “Aid Dependence in Cambodia: How Foreign Assistance Undermines Democracy” and co-author of “The Hungry Dragon: How China's Quest for Resources Is Reshaping the World”. Ear serves as a Trustee/Board Member of the US$ 450 million-endowed Nathan Cummings Foundation, Refugees International, Partners for Development, the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center, the Southeast Asia Development Program, and Diagnostic Microbiology Development Program. Previously, he worked for the World Bank and the UN. A graduate of Princeton and Berkeley, he moved to the United States from France as a Cambodian refugee at the age of 10
