Tamara Hasan Abed

Senior Director, BRAC

Tamara Hasan Abed is a Senior Director and part of the Executive Management Committee of BRAC, a Bangladesh-based development organization. She also sits on the Board of BRAC Bank and BRAC University, and heads two of BRAC's most successful social enterprises: Aarong and BRAC Dairy. Aarong is the largest Bangladeshi retail brand of lifestyle stores selling handmade products made by its 65,000 artisans. BRAC Dairy is the second largest dairy operation in Bangladesh with a core mission to provide rural farmers with a value chain linkage to the market and protect them from price volatility. Abed has more than 17 years of work experience in retail, development, finance and investment. She started her career as an investment banker with Peregrine Capital and worked at Goldman Sachs. She also worked in BRAC's Urban Development Programme and ran a small business of her own in the hospitality industry. Abed has a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an MBA from the Columbia Business School.
