How can we close the digital divide in cities? How can we improve the patient experience? How can we mitigate climate change, and stop the spread of pandemics? Most importantly, how can we create, and live in, empowered societies?
25 quintillion data bytes are generated every single day, holding the potential to drive progress, transform business and society, and improve the state of the world. While many initiatives have made this data more available, most of them are organization-centric - focused on the company, government or entity responsible for the data’s capture, while overlooking the interests of those generating data or most impacted by the resulting insights.
Only by taking a human-centric approach to data can we realize its full potential to advance a sustainable, equitable and thriving future.
In partnership with Government of Finland and a global community of technologists, anthropologists, and policy and data experts, this project aims to develop a new way to create data policy: oriented around the values, needs and expectation of people. Aspects of this work will be piloted by the City of Helsinki in 2021.
