FinCyber: Cybersecurity Strategy for the Global Financial System

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is developing an ‘International Strategy for Cybersecurity and the Global Financial System (2021-2024)’ in partnership with the World Economic Forum. Most of the initiatives undertaken by governments and industry following the 2016 Bangladesh incident have been reactive lacking a more long-term, coherent vision for how to protect the financial system against cyber attacks. To make the sum larger than its parts, this project will build on existing efforts, identify gaps, and outline a more comprehensive approach to maximize the impact of existing activities, strengthen the connective tissue between them, and to propose next steps. We will also convene relevant stakeholders to explore how emerging best practices and lessons learned could be internationalized and to identify champions for their implementation.
