Shaper Support Initiatives in Response to COVID-19 - Panama City

With Panama’s response to the 2020 pandemic being the strictest in the region, our Hub and advisory board raised money and organized several donations of food and cleaning supplies from the private, NGO and public sectors for the indigenous communities of one of our Shapers, representing 400 families. The initiative was included in a local guide of charities to raise money for their projects, and was supported by our Curator’s neighbors who cooked meals for the communities.

Our Hub also organized three virtual conferences with members of our advisory board to talk about social impact, develop/promote leadership and essential coping practices, and discussed the pandemic’s impact on the future of equality in Panama and Costa Rica with each countries’ ex-vice presidents. This last conference “Human development and inequality during COVID-19” was carried out in collaboration with the San José Hub, in order to share experiences and promote bonding between Hubs.

Our Shapers, while being confined to their homes, turned to social media to amplify a message of hope. The Hub carried out the #GratitudeChallenge on Instagram, in which participants shared organizations and individuals doing important work during these unprecedented times. The Global Shapers Miami Hub wanted to replicate this challenge so we shared our graphics with them and they translated them to English. The Hub is also using social media to promote meaningful allied organization’s initiatives as well.
