Risk Management, Reimagined: Outlook to 2035

Organizations face a new, more unpredictable risk landscape, marked by geoeconomic fragmentation, technological disruption, cyber insecurity, climate volatility and societal polarization. Increasingly, chief risk officers are learning to adapt dynamically to disruptions in an environment where uncertainty has become structural rather than episodic.

This white paper, Risk Management, Reimagined: Outlook to 2035, presents insights from consultations with (as well as a survey of) chief risk officers (CROs). It identifies four shifts likely to define the next generation of risk management.

These include a transition to: 1) preparing for unpredictable events instead of accurately predicting disruptions; 2) participating in early strategic decision-making instead of ex-post reviewing of decisions; 3) dynamic and continuous monitoring and intelligence instead of static periodic reviews; and 4) AI-human integration instead of segregated man versus machine insights.
