11 Football Fields of Primary Tropical Forest Were Lost Every Minute Last Year

This forest loss released 2.7 gigatonnes of CO2, equal to the annual emissions of India. In 2022, the world lost 41,000km2 of old-growth forest, equivalent to an area the size of Switzerland. Representing a 10% rise in tropical forest loss on the previous year despite 145 countries making a pledge to end all deforestation by 2030 at COP26.
