3 things to know about clean energy in 2025

This video is part of: Centre for Energy and Materials

Three key facts to know about energy in 2025, according to Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Renewables are surging. Over 80% of new power plants built last year were fossil fuel-free. But there’s a missing link: the grid. Nuclear power is seeing a revival. 2025 is on track to be the highest year ever for nuclear electricity generation, since its rise in the 1970s. Investment in clean energy is also growing, with 85% concentrated in advanced economies. The message is clear: Renewable energy momentum is building, but equitable access around the world is still a challenge.
