This student found a way to make air conditioners more efficient

Eugene Chen is a high school pupil from Shanghai. His invention can cut AC units’ energy use by 10%. Chen says it would reduce global emissions by 1% if installed universally. His device is self-powered, low-cost and easy to install. It uses the condensation produced by an air conditioner and the airflow generated by the fan in its external unit. This fan blows air over warm refrigerant coils to expel the heat the AC has removed from the room inside.
