Are We Still Heading for a Recession in 2023? Chief Economists Are Divided

45% of Chief Economists say a recession is likely this year while exactly the same proportion believe it’s unlikely. The World Economic Forum’s Community of Chief Economists is more optimistic than in January 2023. When 2 in 3 thought a recession was likely. Their regional economic outlooks have grown more positive, too. They expect Asia will see the strongest economic activity, with China in the lead.
