China Just Endorsed a Global Agreement to Protect the Ocean From Overfishing

The support of China - the world’s top fishing nation - is a crucial turning point. Beijing has ratified a World Trade Organization deal to cut billions of dollars in ‘harmful’ subsidies to the fisheries sector. All 164 WTO members agreed to the historic global deal in 2022 but two-thirds need to ratify the agreement for it to take effect.
