European Energy Crisis Fueled Demand For Firewood

The European energy crisis is making people brace for energy shortages this winter by stockpiling firewood. In Germany, the cost of firewood has risen 86% in a year. Other wood products like toilet paper also witnessed a price surge. Higher demand for wood isn’t just an economic issue; the relaxation of logging laws has led to environmental protests. Higher wood prices could lead to illegal logging and overharvesting. Burning wood also emits more particle pollution than road traffic. But can firewood actually help ease the European energy crisis this winter?
