The global IT outage: what it cost and what we learned

July 2024 saw one of the worst IT disruptions in history. A flawed security update caused shockwaves around the world. 8.5 million Microsoft Windows devices went offline, bringing airlines, banks and businesses to a halt. Within days, most of the systems had been restored but the stoppage cost Fortune 500 companies an estimated $5.4 billion. Here are some of the other impacts.
