Kids Read a Lot More Books in the UK and Ireland Last Year. BookTok Could Be Why

In the 2021-22 academic year, pupils read 27 million books, 24% more than the previous year. That’s a total of 268 billion words. 19% more than the year before. Researchers say social media trends are behind the rise including BookTok, where users post reactions to books they’ve read.
