The share of women inventors is rising. But a large gender gap remains

In 2022, 11% of all US patents were awarded to women. An increase of 51% since 2000. Chemistry has the highest share of women inventors at 18%. While mechanical engineering has the fewest at just 5%. Electrical engineering has seen the fastest progress. The share of women inventors in this field has doubled from 5% in 2000 to 10% in 2022.
